  • Outline of Paint Policy

    1. The Co-op shall provide paint for the redecoration of internal areas. The Paint Coordinator will assist members in buying the paint Responsibility for the upkeep and redecoration of internal areas falls with the members of each property.

    Shared Houses

    Bedrooms

When a member moves into the Co-op or transfers within Sa house or between houses, they will be entitled to enough paint to decorate the room (see entitlement). The Co-op will not meet the cost of further redecoration by the same member of the same room for at least another 3 years. The Paint Co-ordinator and/or Maintenance Co-ordinator can overrule this if there are extenuating circumstances

    Communal Areas

The Co-op provides paint to members of a shared house to redecorate their communal areas. Paint will be provided no sooner than 3 years after the last redecoration of each communal area. The Paint Coordinator and the Maintenance Coordinator can jointly overrule this if there are extenuating circumstances.

    Flats

When a member moves into a flat or family house, the Co-op will provide enough paint to redecorate all areas of the property. Paint will be provided no sooner than 3 years after the last redecoration of each area in the property. The Paint Coordinator and the Maintenance Coordinator can jointly overrule this if there are extenuating circumstances.

    Supplier

    1. The Co-op holds an account with a local supplier: Cutlacks – H & J Cutlacks, 264-268 Mill Road, Cambridge CB1 3NF.
    2. All paint supplied by ASH Co-op will come from this supplier, unless an exception is agreed by a Maintenance Co-ordinator or Paint Co-ordinator.
    3. Where a change of supplier is required, this must be agreed by a General Meeting.

    Entitlement

    1. If a member wishes to paint, they must first go to the office – where the staff will check the member/relevant households entitlement to paint and issue paint chits as appropriate. If the member/household is not eligible for paint, a Maintenance Co-ordinator / Paint Co-ordinator will be able to advise the office whether an exception can be made. Once issued with the appropriate paint chit, the member can take this to the agreed supplier in order to get their paint. ASH Co-op will then pay for agreed paint, on production of an invoice from the supplier.
    2. The brands and finishes currently agreed by ASH Co-op are:
      • Crown Breatheasy Matt Emulsion
      • Crown Breatheasy Silk Emulsion
      • Crown Gloss
      • Crown – choose your own colour
    3. If current decoration is a dark colour which proves difficult to cover with the paint allocated, the member can ask for more paint. This is at the discretion of a Paint Co-ordinator or Maintenance Co-ordinator.
    4. The Maintenance Group recognises that members may from time to time want to use other paints that differ from brands currently used by ASH Co-op. If a member would like the Co-op to pay for paint other than the brand/s and finishes agreed by ASH Co-op, they should seek agreement from a Maintenance Co-ordinator / Paint Co-ordinator, who will then be able to advise the office whether an exception can be made.
    5. Where a permanent change of paint brand/s used is required, this must be agreed by a General Meeting.

    Recycling

    1. ASH Co-op recognises the importance of doing its bit to help the environment. Members are encouraged to recycle their leftover paint items and donate unwanted paint to other members who may be able to use it. Alternatively, they may take certain items (e.g. empty paint tins) to recycling centres
    2. The nearest recycling centre is: Cambridgeshire County Council Recycling Centre
Butt Lane, Milton Cambridgeshire CB24 6DQ
    3. Where there are large amounts of paint that need recycling, ASH Co-op may be able to organise for this to be collected or donated to a recycling centre/community art project. This can sometimes incur a cost and the Maintenance Group will be authorised to spend up to £150 of their annual budget on this. Any recycling of this nature will be notified to members in advance.
